The registration process for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Odisha will officially close on May 15, according to Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Rabi Naik. With just days left, the Minister has urged all eligible citizens to complete their applications promptly to benefit from this flagship rural housing scheme.

PM Awas Yojana Registration Deadline in Odisha Ends May 15: Minister Urges Final Registrations

Over 34 Lakh Already Registered

So far, 34 to 35 lakh people in Odisha have registered under the PMAY—an ambitious government program aimed at achieving “Housing for All.” The scheme is targeted at economically weaker sections (EWS), Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and other disadvantaged groups across both rural and urban areas.

Post-Deadline Survey to Identify Left-Out Households

Minister Naik also announced that once the registration deadline ends, door-to-door surveys will be conducted to identify eligible households that may have missed registering. This initiative will help ensure that no deserving family is excluded from the final list of beneficiaries.

The survey is set to begin immediately after May 15 and will be carried out by local government teams to verify housing needs on the ground.

Progress and Challenges in Housing Implementation

Highlighting progress under the scheme, the Minister stated that roofing work has been completed for nearly 3 lakh houses. However, some minor construction work remains due to delays and logistical challenges.

In addition, more than 500 areas across Odisha continue to face road connectivity issues, affecting housing construction and access to newly built homes.

To address these concerns, the Panchayati Raj Department is working closely with local authorities to implement corrective measures aimed at improving rural infrastructure and accelerating the pace of construction.

Government Support and Assistance for Final Registrations

With the registration window closing soon, local officials and panchayat offices have been directed to assist last-minute applicants. Citizens who meet the eligibility criteria are encouraged to visit their local centers immediately to ensure they do not miss this opportunity.

The state government also plans to expedite the approval and fund disbursement process once registrations and subsequent surveys are completed.

Final Call to Eligible Citizens

This is the final opportunity for eligible households in Odisha to secure their spot under the PMAY scheme, which promises a pucca house for every poor family. Minister Naik reiterated the government’s commitment to inclusive rural development and urged all potential beneficiaries to act swiftly.
